Clothing & Costumes
'The clothes make the man,' as they say; and having a good
costume for the game can really enhance the experience. Many
players advise to start with the basics: a tunic or peasant
shirt and drawstring pants, leggings or skirt.
Here are some guidelines for costuming:
- Wear good shoes.
You will be in the woods for many hours and while sandals might look good, an anachronistic pair hiking boots are a lot safer and more comfortable.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
Black leather is probably too hot for a summer weekend and ill fitting garments get tiresome to wear. While the authentic look of armor is inspiring or terrifying in the field, plastic and loose fitting may suit better than metal.
- Plan for weather.
It may rain for the game or it may be hot or cold. Be prepared for these extremes.
- Costume Details.
Be sure to add details to your costume. Anyone can don a robe or a peasant's shirt. Jewelry, head bands, belts, and other accents can really make the difference. Try matching accessories to your character background.Costuming doesn't have to look period to fit in, it just has to look non-modern. Colonial era garb can look quite good, as can a toga. Jeans and t-shirts make very poor costumes.
